CryptoOracle launches the Hockey-Stick Finder: a daily screener for moves that are still at their extreme

Warsaw, Poland — 8 November 2026. CryptoOracle today launched the Hockey-Stick Finder, a daily screener that lists the instruments whose price has just made a move of a size that usually takes weeks, and is still sitting at the top (or the bottom) of it. It scans crypto perpetuals, commodities and shares, lets the trader tune what counts as a stick with a handful of sliders, and opens each hit straight in the Symbol Lab. It is included in the Macro plan.

What a hockey stick is

A long flat handle and then the blade: a price that drifted for months and then covered, in a few sessions, the distance it normally covers in a quarter. Everyone recognises the shape on a chart after the fact. The finder looks for it while the blade is still being drawn, which is the only moment it is useful.

The rule is measured in the instrument’s own volatility, never in percent or dollars, so a quiet utility stock and a hot perpetual are judged by the same standard. The finder takes the average daily range of the 40 bars before the move (the ATR), then asks two questions about the last 20 bars: how many ATRs is the close above the lowest close of the window, and how close is it to the window’s extreme. By default a stick needs a blade of at least 12 ATR with the close within 3 ATR of the top. Both numbers, and the window itself, are sliders.

What the research says it is good for

Before building the page we ran the rule over three years of daily candles for roughly five thousand instruments. The honest result: a hockey stick is not a top call. On average up-sticks did not fade, and the finder makes no claim about direction. What a fresh stick does predict reliably is range: in the twenty bars after a hit the instrument moved 1.35 to 1.55 times its usual daily range. That is exactly what CryptoOracle’s PARTIAL_CLOSE strategy lives on, since it earns on the swing rather than on the trend. The finder is the shortlist for it.

The same backtest shaped the filters. A third of the raw hits were data artefacts rather than markets: penny prices where one tick is the whole “volatility”, instruments that do not trade on most days, split adjustments, one-day gaps that reverted the next session, leveraged and inverse products. The finder flags those with a reason chip and keeps them out of the main list; a switch shows them if you want to see what was dropped.

Three categories, three templates

  • Crypto — Bybit USDT perpetuals, with a minimum-liquidity slider in real daily turnover so the list is tradeable, not just loud.
  • Commodities — energy, metals and softs, with a slightly lower default threshold because these markets move in smaller steps.
  • Shares — the full equity universe, where most sticks and most data traps live.

Each category has its own defaults and its own extras; the parameters you set are kept in the page address, so a scan can be bookmarked or sent to a colleague. Two optional boosters rank the hits: a climax score for sticks whose last three bars did most of the work, and a compression score for moves that broke out of an unusually quiet base. Every card is a chart in percent from the start of the stick, with the fire marked, and the symbol links to that instrument’s Symbol Lab, where the move-odds tables and positions are one click away.

Availability

The Hockey-Stick Finder is live now at hockeystick.cryptooracle.app and from the new Hockeysticks tab in the CryptoOracle dashboard. Candles are refreshed every night after the daily close. It is part of the Macro plan and above; the subscription is taken out in the CryptoOracle app for iOS and Android, and the web login carries over automatically.

CryptoOracle is a trading platform by Datapipesoft Sp. z o.o. that runs automated strategies on Bybit, MEXC, Kraken, Hyperliquid and Capital.com, with the analytics to decide what to trade next. Nothing in this release is investment advice.
